England. Aethelred II. 978-1016. AR Penny (18.5mm, 1.92 g, 1h). Crux type (BMC iiia, Hild. C.a.). Romney mint; moneyer Leofhese. Struck circa 991-997. + ÆÐELRED REX ΛNGLO, bareheaded draped bust left with scepter in front / + LEOFHESE M-O RVM, short cross voided, C R V X in angles. BEH -; North 770. Very Fine, slightly wavy flan. Unrecorded mint for type. Extremely rare.

Unrecorded mint for type. In “Mints and Moneyer c 973-1066” by Jonsson and Van der Meer the Crux type for the Romney mint is not recorded. The Romney mint can with this coin now be as established as already have begun minting in the beginning of 990s.
