ROMAN BRONZE FEMALE HEAD WITH STEPHANE
Ca. 1-100 AD. A hollow cast bronze fitting depicting a head of a female. The face shows staring eyes, a finely carved nose, and fine lips. The hair is nicely arranged in curls and is surmounted by a stephane, a decorative wreath worn by Greek and Roman aristocratic women. Well preserved, and expertly cleaned. Size: L:55mm / W:55mm ; 50g Provenance: Private London collector, acquired on the Austrian Art market; formerly in an old USA collection, formed since the 1970s.
