ANCIENT ROMAN TERRA SIGILLATA PLATE WITH DECORATION

A wheel-thrown redware pottery dish of a squat form that rests atop a flat base. The vessel features broad walls, a shallow basin, and two grooves between the rim and basin. The center of the basin is decorated with a four-pointed star surrounded by four stylised concentric bullseye patterns.

Provenance: Property of a London Ancient Art Gallery; formerly in the famous Alison Barker collection, a retired London barrister; acquired between early 1960s to 1990s.
