Description

ROMAN BRONZE BOWL
Ca. 300 AD.
An outstanding bronze bowl with a hemispherical body with a brilliant patina enhancing the entire surface. Decorated with thin incised circles in the centre. The use of bronze bowls in the Roman Empire was widespread, as they were used for a variety of purposes. Bronze bowls were usually made of either one or two pieces of a single sheet of bronze, which was cut and rolled to create the desired shape. The thickness of these bowls would vary, depending on the purpose of the bowl.

Provenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market in the 1990s.
