Description

CHINESE TANG DYNASTY BRONZE MIRROR
Ca. 618-907 AD.
A circular mirror crafted from bronze adorned with relief decoration. The central hemispherical boss adds an intricate layer of complexity to the design. Meanwhile, the broad rim is left unadorned, creating a subtle contrast that draws the viewer's gaze towards the central motif. Its obverse side, which would have been polished, would have provided a clear and accurate reflection, adding an element of functionality to its beauty. The Tang Dynasty is renowned for its production of bronze mirrors, with examples ranging from simple circular mirrors to ornate, multi-panelled mirrors with intricate decoration. These mirrors were highly valued both for their beauty and for their technical excellence.
Size: L:190mm / W:190mm ; 815g
Provenance: From the private collection of a Somerset gentleman; previously in an old British collection, formed before 2000 on the UK /European art markets.

Estimate: GBP 300 - 500
