VIKING IRON KNIFE BLADE
Ca. 900-1000 AD
An iron seax blade with a straight cutting edge and sharply angled back, the tang offset from the blade. Its hilt would have been made of wood, bone, or horn. The Viking seax is a very fine large fighting knife that was used by most warriors. For a similar (but Saxo-Norman) see the Museum of London, ID number: A1781.
