Description

A JEWISH BABYLONIAN ARAMAIC TERRACOTTA INCANTATION BOWL 6th-7th century CE. 17.6 cm in diam. Depicting an Aramaic inscription, beginning from the center: “Blessed is the One who smites and heals. For Your name I act and in You I trust. For Your name I act, merciful Father. I blazed (like) fire the sky and did not write (the incantation) on earth. This(?) Misana’a son of Mamay – door of Fire, door of fire – Jewish and Aramaean men shall come to his gate, (even) a basin of gold with her (?) and the woman is not called zmynyt bqm mrr sws mgryr mr’s drmndyh” Biblical quot.: Ps 24:10b (Translated by Dr. James Ford, Hebrew Univ.).
