L. Hostilius Saserna. AR Denarius, 48 BC. Obv. Bearded bust of Gallic enemy with flowing hair ("Vercingetorix"); Gaulish shield behind. Rev. L HOSTILIVS / SASERN. Biga driven right by charioteer, warrior facing backward holding shield and hurling spear. Cr. 448/2a; B. 2. AR. 3.68 g. 19.00 mm. RR. Very rare. Well centred on a broad flan and unusually complete. Choice, brilliant and lightly toned. From a little rusty obverse die. Good VF/About EF.
