Greek Italy. Southern Apulia, Tarentum. AR Nomos, c. 302-290 BC. Obv. Warrior, nude but for helmet, preparing to cast spear held aloft in right hand, holding two spears and shield with left hand, on horse rearing right; ΔAI below. Rev. Phalanthos, nude, holding trident over shoulder in right hand, and shield decorated with hippocamp in left, riding dolphin left; ΦI to left, TAPAΣ to right, conch shell below. HN Italy 935; Vlasto 596; SNG Cop. 846; Fischer-Bossert Group 77. AR. 7.87 g. 21.00 mm. Lovely old cabinet tone with warm and iridescent hues. About EF.
