The depiction of Zeus-Serapis driving a quadriga is very rare on Alexandrian tetradrachm and this specimen is a striking example. Serapis singularly replaces the usual figure of the reigning emperor in the robes of a charioteer, which we find often repeated on the reverses of bronze drachmas and hemidrachms.
