Description

★ Graded PF61 Cameo NGC. ★

Great Britain, Victoria, 1837-1901. AV Proof 5 Pounds (5 Sovereigns), 1893, Royal mint, 3rd portrait - Veiled bust, by Thomas Brock (obverse) and Benedetto Pistrucci (reverse), reeded edge, 39mm. VICTORIA · DEI · GRA · BRITT · REGINA · FID · DEF · IND · IMP ·, older crowned and veiled bust of Queen Victoria left, legend around and engraver’s initials ‘T.B.’ (Thomas Brock) in the cutting of the neck. 1893 / B.P., St. George slaying the dragon right, date in exergue and engraver’s initials ’B.P’ (Benedetto Pistrucci) to right of the date (KM787; S-3872; Fr. 394a).

A superb example displaying mirror like surfaces and cameo contrast. Faint hairlines and minor marks are holding it back from a higher grade. Designed by Thomas Brock, this was the first issue to portray Queen Victoria in a veil, widowed head.

Graded PF61 Cameo NGC.

Mintage of 773 pieces.
