Bithynia was an ancient region located in the northwestern part of Asia Minor (present-day Turkey). Its capital city was Nicaea (present-day Iznik).
Kios (also known as Cius or Prusias ad Mare) was a city located on the coast of Bithynia, near the modern-day town of Gemlik. It was founded by colonists from Megara in ancient Greece in the 8th century BCE and became an important maritime and commercial center.
Kios was ruled by several different powers throughout its history, including the Persians, the Kingdom of Bithynia, the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, and the Ottoman Empire. It was also the birthplace of the famous ancient philosopher and mathematician, Menaechmus.
