Description

PB Byzantine seal of Gregory doux (11th-12th century AD).
Obv: Bust of St. Theodore holding a spear and shield. Sigla on either side: ὁ ἅ(γιος) Θεόδω[ρ]ο[ς]. Border of dots.
Rev: Inscription of seven lines, a cross above: σὸν Γρη[γ]όριον οἰ[κ]έτην σῶ[σ]ον, Λόγε, τὸν [δού]κα λιταῖς [μ]άρτυρος [Θ]εοδώρ[ου]. Border of dots.
Translation: Divine Logos, preserve your servant, the doux Gregory, through the intercessions of the martyr Theodore.
The owner addresses Christ as the Logos. Doaks, BZS.1951.31.5.708. Cf. Wassiliou–Seibt, Siegel mit metrischen Legenden II, no. 2216.
