IRELAND, Hiberno-Norse. Phase III. Circa 1035-1055/60. AR Penny (18mm, 0.89 g, 5h). Long Cross type. + IИITIIEII · ΓCИI, draped bust left; quatrefoil of pellets on neck / + IID IICII I+I·I·I LDI·, voided long cross, with triple crescent ends; pellets in first and fourth quarters, ‘hand’ symbol in second, 8 in third. O'S 20; SCBI 8 (BM) 109 (same dies); SCBI 32 (Ulster), 278; D&F 24; SCBC 6133. Attractive cabinet tone, trace of ghosting on obverse. EF. Crisp strike. Very rare.
