Russia 5 Kopecks (1867-1916) - Mint Error. Reverse Brockage
15.97g. AU/AU. Beautiful exemplar of rare mint error - reverse brockage with natural yellow-brown color toning. Rare state of preservation. Brockage errors occur when a freshly struck coin sticks to one of the dies and then impresses a mirror image of itself onto a new blank planchet during the next strike. This results in one side of the new coin displaying a mirrored, incuse image. When well-preserved and clearly defined, brockage errors are highly collectible and can command substantial prices. There are two types of brockage errors: obverse brockages and reverse brockages. Obverse brockages occur when the previously struck coin remains stuck to the lower (obverse) die. Reverse brockages happen when the struck coin sticks to the upper (reverse) die.
