Description

Seleukid Kingdom, Demetrios II Nikator. AR Tetradrachm, 14.31 g. - 27.79 mm. First reign, 146-138 BC. Phoenician standard. Tyre mint. Dated SE 167 = (146/5 BC.)
Obv.: Diademed and draped bust of Demetrius II. to right.
Rev.: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ. Eagle standing left on prow right; palm frond in background; to left, monogram above club surmounted by Tyre monogram; to right, ZΞP (date) above monogram.

Beautifully toned and well struck, with a particularly elegant portrait of the young king.
