★ Unique Trachy of Michael VIII ★
Michael VIII Paleologus AR Trachy (26mm, 1,89 g.). Magnesia mint 1260 AD. Magnesia mint (before the liberation of Constantinople from the Crusaders). Facing bust of Christ Pantocrator, wearing tunic, himation and a cross nimbus with three pellets in the arms, raising right hand in benediction and holding Gospels in his left. Rev. Michael left wearing loros and St. Tryphon nimbate standing, facing both holding long cross. Small part of the edge is broken and missing, insignificant small crack, otherwise Good Very Fine. This highly interesting issue seems to be unpublished. Extremely Rare coin from the future emperor and restorer of byzantine empire Michael VIII. The style of the iconography refers this issue to the mint of Magnesia. Exceedingly Rare.
