Great Britain. Maundy Set, 1953. S.4126; ESC-2570 (R2); KM-MDS212. Elizabeth II. Maundy set of four coins (4d 3d 2d 1d). Obverse; portrait of young Queen by Mary Gillick. Reverse; Crowned numeral within wreath. A superb example of the rarest set of Maundy coins struck during the 20th century. With a low mintage, the 1953 Maundy pieces were often weakly struck, and many sets were split and the individual coins given to foreign dignitaries as souvenirs at the time of HM Queen's coronation. This is a superb, well struck matching set. PCGC graded 2 Pence PL 62; Penny PL 63; 3 Pence and 4 Pence PL 64. Lot of 4 coins. Estimated Value $1,100 - 1,300
