Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (1602-1799) - Batavia - AR 1 stiver of Zeeland 1684 (Passon 9.1; Scho. 17 RRRR) - 1.17 gram - Obv. “swimming lion” (the crest of the province) / rev. Inscription: ZEE / LAN / DIA / 1684. On obverse countermark of a small demi-lion to left arising from waves, which was applied according to an announcement on May 16, 1687 that the genuine stivers of Zeeland should be stamped with a small impression of the lion of Zeeland similar to the lion on the obverse. Exceptionally rare issue, some minor encrustations, but otherwise generally Fine+
