Mintage: 1000. 2) gold 500 Yuan (5 oz) - PR69, KM509, Cheng-pg. 137, 1, CC-474. Mintage: 99. Shenyang mint. Inventions & Discoveries - Series II. An extremely rare Proof set that is simply never encountered on the market, with examples of the silver 50 Yuan seldom becoming available, and the 500 Yuan proving even more elusive--we have not been able to locate a single example coming to auction in the past 15 years. Each piece is rather lavishly struck and preserved, neither type having yet been awarded with the coveted PR70 designation in the NGC census, and the 500 Yuan tied for the finest certified by that company. We note that that while the mintage figures in both the Standard Catalog of World Coins and on the Certificate of Authenticity for the 50 Yuan state that 1000 pieces were struck, the Gold & Silver Coins of China Standard Catalogue maintains that only 803 were actually struck. The set comes sold with its original wooden presentation case and COA's numbered 491 and 45, respectively.
