SELEUCID KINGDOM. Antiochus VII Euergetes (Sidetes) (138-129 BC). AR tetradrachm (29mm, 16.71 gm, 12h). XF, scratches. Early posthumous issue of uncertain mint in Cappadocia, under Ariarathes VII Philometer, dated year 183 (130/29 BC). Diademed head of Antiochus VII right, diadem ends falling straight behind; bead-and-reel border / BAΣIΛEΩΣ / ANTIOXOY / EYEP-ΓETOY, Athena standing facing, head left, resting left hand on grounded shield decorated with gorgoneion, spear resting against arm, Nike in right hand extending wreath into border; MT monogram above A in outer left field, ΓΠΡ (date) below, all within laurel wreath. SC -. Note - SC only lists Damascus (SC 2096.10) as the mint for this dated type for Antiochus VII. This monogram and controls are not listed in SC for Antiochus VII and the style points to an early Cappadocian issue. The date seems to be impossible for this issue, but in hand it appears quite clear. Perhaps a reworked die? Apparently unique.
