Napoleon III gold "Boulevard de I'Impératrice Eugènie" Medal 1860 MS63 NGC, Divo-427, Escande-43. 50mm. 104.93gm. By Caqué F. Struck for the laying of the first stone of the Boulevard de I'Impératrice Eugènie (Empress Eugènie Boulevard) in Algiers, 1860. The type exists in copper, silver, and gold, with a copy of the gold medal offered to the Empress upon her visit, as well as to the Minister of Algeria. This gold emission is extremely rare, and represents the first of the type that we have seen in any composition. The obverse portrays the bust of Napoleon III and Empress Eugènie, attractively engraved in fine detail, with great attention given to the finer features of the royal couple's hair and headdress, the reverse displaying an inscription explaining the occasion of the medal's striking.
