South Africa Standard Bank of South Africa Limited 20 Pounds ND (1896) Pick S584s Specimen PCGS Banknote Choice AU 58 Details. Started in 1862, Standard Bank began issuing its own banknotes in the same year of inception. Initially, circulation was limited to Port Elizabeth, but later spread to the rest of South Africa. This £20 denomination would have been the highest denomination issued by Standard Bank for this period and represented huge purchasing power. A gorgeous vignette of Britannia is seen at the center. The cataloger has not seen an issued example in almost three decades of specializing in South African currency, and is of the opinion that this is a rare opportunity to acquire this in Specimen format. There is no sales information available and no other graded example in the PMG census. Cancelled with multiple punch holes, washed, and hinge glue. Rare.
