Description

British India. William IV gold Proof Restrike 2 Mohurs 1835.-(c) PR63 PCGS, Calcutta mint, KM452.1, Fr-1592b, Prid-3, S&W-1.4. Reeded edge. A quintessential British Indian type, and one of the most coveted entries in this very popular series. Showing an utter paucity of stray marks, the surfaces contain a subtly stippled texture punctuated by a clear mirrorlike flash. Certainly ranking in the upper bracket of examples we have handled, we note that a mere 7 examples have been certified finer to date across both major grading services, with the $26,400 realized for a PR61 in our August 2020 Platinum Night sale confirming the fervent bidding that such specimens inspire.
