Charles III gold 8 Escudos 1783 NG-P AU50 NGC, Nueva Guatemala mint, KM40, VQR-Unl., Chaves-31, Cay-12944, Cal-1911, Onza-671 (Extremely Rare). An incredibly rare date from this only five-year type, and one of a mere two examples we have been able to locate coming to auction in recent decades, the other having been repaired. Altogether missing from Vidal Quadras y Ramón, Medina, Guttag, Ulex, Norweb and Eliasberg collections (the latter two of which both only contained a 1778), this piece currently stands as the sole example yet certified and the first we have ever offered, scattered contact existing across the surfaces in line with the grade, though the open expanses still emit a pervasive underlying luster. Not a coin that we have been able to locate in any of the major collections we have consulted, and one sure to demand a premium bid among connoisseurs of the series. Ex.
