JUDAEA. Bar Kokhba Revolt (AD 132-135). AE middle bronze (20mm, 6.48 gm, 1h). NGC XF 4/5 - 3/5, repatinated. Undated issue of Year 3 (AD 134/5). For the Freedom of Israel (Paleo-Hebrew), vertical palm within wreath / Simon (Paleo-Hebrew), elongated kinnor (or lyre) with three strings. GBC 6, 6463. GBC 5, 1436. TJC 297. Mildenberg 33. Sandy repatination over red-brown surfaces. Attractive in hand. From the New England Collection Note from Mildenberg on this reverse die 12: "At the beginning of minting of no. 33 a part of struck flan remained between the two dies and formed an incuse het (Paleo-Hebrew) right of the lyre's soundbox, thereby producing a brockage or freak (see D. Hendin, "Clashed die errors in Bar Kokhba Coins," INJ 5, 1981, pp. 44-45). Afterwards, this piece of bronze was removed with the result that the later production was flawless!"
