Prussia. Wilhelm II silver Proof Pattern 5 Mark 1904-A PR65 NGC, Berlin mint, KM-Unl., Schaaf-104/M2. Lettered Edge. A fantastic "Probe" issue of this classic Prussian Crown type from the turn of the 20th Century. Made with a fascinating style of execution, this test design looks like the standard design until about midway up the length of the legend lettering where the flan curves outwards, resulting in an edge that is thicker than standard. This intriguing issue is exceedingly scarce and rarely crosses the auction block. As far as eye appeal goes, the pewter-gray cabinet patina accompanied by hints of colorful blueish-purple iridescence is more than adequate. A single thin mark in front of Wilhelm's face is the only noteworthy flaw. Ex. Herbert Grün Auction 26 (March 1999, Lot 157) HID09801242017 © 2023 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
