Description

Olmutz. Wolfgang von Schrattenbach (1711-1738) Ducat ND (1712-1726) MS63+ NGC, Fr-97 (under Bohemia) 3.45gm. A stunning example of this exceedingly rare type struck after Wolfgang von Schrattenbach's elevation to Cardinal in 1712. Of the handful of examples to come under the gavel in the last two decades, this specimen, the only occupant at either NGC or PCGS, is undoubtedly among the crème de la crème. The strike is centered, even, and comprehensive, a feat that is particularly eye-catching on the complicated reverse design. There, the amalgam of the coat of arms of the Bishopric of Olmutz and Cardinal Schrattenbach pair with a Semi-Prooflike appeal to the flan, culminating in an effect totally deserving of NGC's plus superlative.
