James I gold Spur Ryal ND (1611-1612) UNC Details (Plugged, Repaired) NGC, Tower mint, Mullet mm, S-2614, N-2080. 6.60gm. Second Coinage of 1604-1619. (mullet) IACOBVS • D .' G .' MAG .' BRIT .' FRAN .' ET • | HIB .' REX, Crowned king holding sword and Royal shield, standing three-quarters facing in man-o'-war ship, I on standard at bow, double rose below // (mullet) • A • DNO .' FACTVM • EST • ISTVD • ET • EST • MIRABILE • Rose on spur rowel in center of quadrilobe, alternating crowned lion and and floriate cross with lis in angles, small trefoils in spandrels. A classic rarity of the Stuart gold series, brandishing imagery that acknowledges the multiplicity of political factions and interests that brought James I to power. The details grade here, referring to the repaired area at 11 o'clock, is most unfortunate as the quality and comprehension of the strike rivals the quality witnessed in the few Mint State specimens graded across NGC and PCGS. The repaired area has taken on an interesting gray-blue tone, imbuing this regal relic with a welcome personality. Ex.
