Description

George I gold "Coronation" Medal 1714 MS62 NGC, MI-II-424/9, Eimer-470. 35mm. 22.28gm. By John Croker. GEORGIVS D G MAG BR FR ET HIB REX Laureate bust right // King enthroned, left, receiving crown from Britannia, right; in exergue INAVGVRAT XX OCT / MDCCXIIII. Struck to a reported mintage of only 330 pieces and highly sought after in uncirculated condition. Semi-prooflike flash sings from the fields with only mild chatter in the expanses to distract. Whispers of lavender and cobalt tone can be found by the discerning eye in the obverse peripheries, adding a touch of personality to the exactingly rendered legends. An overall exquisite piece that will make a prized addition to an advanced cabinet. Accompanied by an old collector's ticket. Privately purchased from A.H. Baldwin in the early 1920s for £5/5s HID09801242017 © 2023 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
