Charles I Crown ND (1645-1646) AU55 NGC, Tower mint under Parliament, Sun mm, S-2761, N-2198. Group IV. 30.01gm. A very popular Crown type, struck in the midst of the turbulent 1640s, a time of civil war for England. Coinage during this conflict split into those created by supporters of the King and those by the Parliamentarian rebels, such as this piece. Facing up with satisfying, deep patination pervading the surprisingly neat open expanses and displaying little actual wear on the devices, this gently circulated example is a thoroughly pleasing addition to any advanced British Crown collection.
