ASIA MINOR. Uncertain mint. Ca. late 40s-30s BC. AE (25mm, 19.05 gm, 12h). Fine, tooled. Bare head of male (Octavian?) right / Fiscus, sella, and hasta; Q below. RPC I 5409. Evidence of tooling, thus ineligible for encapsulation. This coinage has previously been attributed to a Macedonian mint, because the iconography was similar to Aesillas coinage, but that has been changed because the hasta was associated with imperium and no specimen has been found in Macedonia. Since two coins have connections to Beirut, RPC presents a case for a Cilician or Syrian origin, and suggests that the portrait is that of Octavian(?). The coinage is visibly similar in style and RPC goes as far as to suggest that it was engraved the same celator as Octavian's coinage from Cilicia. SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS.
