Republic Sun Yat-sen silver Specimen Pattern "Mausoleum" Dollar Year 16 (1927) UNC Details (Cleaned) PCGS, Nanking mint, KM-Unl., Kann-609, L&M-85, WS-0130, Wenchao-898 (rarity 3 stars). Mintage: 480. By Richard Placht. Minted in Nanking from dies prepared in Vienna. An increasingly popular emission and one of countless effigies of the esteemed "Father of China," Sun Yat-sen. While his "Mausoleum" Dollars were never put into production due to inconsistencies in the rendering of Yat-sen and his tomb, they nonetheless became highly regarded as Crown-sized Patterns due to their absolute rarity and visual interest. Of comparable preservation to most that come to market, exhibiting a muted surface indicative of an earlier cleaning, but does little to detract from the intrigue and desirability of the piece at hand.
