Philip V gold Cob 4 Escudos 1715 Mo-J UNC Details (Removed From Jewelry) NGC, Mexico City mint, KM55.2, Cal-2030. 13.33gm. One of just a handful of this date to come to public auction in the last few years, and certainly one of the best examples surviving. The Spanish arms, reverse cross, mintmark, and denomination are all on flan, not to mention, the last two digits of the date enjoying legibility on the obverse. The square-ish shape of the cob resembles other representatives and glows with subtle luminosity, just furthering the aesthetic appeal already established by the present motifs. Most likely salvaged from the 1715 Fleet Shipwrecks, due to its Uncirculated surfaces and satin look. We note a barely noticeable mark on the edge, in our opinion a result of encrustation removal or a scar from when it was salvaged, since mounted pieces end up having bright, flashy surfaces, which is not the case with the piece offered here.
