Just 1,115 pieces of this large gold denomination were struck in 1866; as such, even advanced collections of Papal States coins will omit an example. The present offering has some minor smoothing to Pius's cheek in line with its 'repaired' certification, but has otherwise satisfactory surfaces with eye-catching color and considerable gloss to the fields.
