SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Demetrios II Nikator, first reign, 146-138 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 13.87 g, 1 h), Phoenician standard. Sidon, SE 168 = 145/4. Diademed head of Demetrios II to right. Rev. ΒAΣIΛEΩΣ - ΔHMHTPIOY Eagle standing left with closed wings; behind, palm frond; to left, ΗΞP above monogram of ΠA; to right, ΣΙΔΩ above aphlaston. SC 1954.2b. A splendid, darkly toned piece. Extremely fine.
