★ An exceptional Flavian dupondius, very likely the finest known ★

Vespasian, 69-79. Dupondius (Orichalcum, 28 mm, 15.00 g, 7 h), Rome, 77-78. IMP CAESAR VESPASIAN COS VIII Radiate head of Vespasian to left. Rev. CERES AVGVST / S - C Cered, veiled, standing front, head to left, holding grain ears in her right hand and long torch in her left. BMC 735. Cohen 57. RIC 999. An exceptional piece, boldly struck and of the finest Flavian style. A magnificent coin with beautiful orichalcum surfaces and very likely the best known example. A few very light deposits, otherwise, good extremely fine.
