Description

Valentinian II, 375-392. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.52 g, 6 h), uncertain mint in Northern Italy, 383. D N VALENTINI-ANVS P F AVG Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Valentinian II to right. Rev. VICTOR-IA AVGG / COM Two emperors, crowned and nimbate, seated facing on double-throne, holding a globe together; behind, Victory standing facing with wings spread; below, small palm branch. Depeyrot 5/2. RIC 5e var. (emperor on the right smaller). Rare. Struck from a slightly worn obverse die, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
