INDO-SKYTHIANS, Western Satraps. Nahapana, circa 53-99. AE (Bronze, 13 mm, 2.16 g, 12 h), issued by a vasall of the great Kshatrapa Nahapana. Elephant standing right with trunk raised; above, swastika. Rev. Stylized thunderbolt and arrow. Fishman -. Very rare. Somewhat rough, otherwise, about very fine.
From a collection of coins from Central Asia.
This rare type was issued by an unknown vassal of Nahapana, a great Kshatrapa (Saka) ruler of Gujarat, Malwa and northern Konkan for 46 years. The fabric and style point to Satavahana as the origin of the coin, but Nahapana's dynastic symbols - the thunderbolt and arrow - are prominently featured on the reverse.
