Justinian I, 527-565. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.38 g, 7 h), Constantinopolis, circa 538-545. D N IVSTINIANVS P P AVG Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Justinian I facing, holding globus cruciger in his right hand and with a shield decorated with horseman attacking a fallen foe over his left shoulder. Rev. VICTORIA AVGGG I / CONOB Angel standing facing, holding long jewelled cross in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left; in field to right, star. DOC 8h. MIB 6. SB 139. Lustrous and attractive. Light doubling and with a graffito on the reverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
