★ A very rare issue of Gordian III from Aphrodisias ★

CARIA. Aphrodisias. Gordian III, 238-244. Pentassarion (?) (Bronze, 35 mm, 14.82 g, 6 h). ΑΥ Κ Μ ΑΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑИΟϹ CЄ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. ΑΦΡΟΔЄΙ/CΙЄΩИ Cult-statue of Aphrodite standing right on plinth between small figure of priestess seated right and fountain (?); on either side, column surmounted by Eros, holding torch towards cult statue. MacDonald Type 180 (O229/R418). RPC VII.1, 618. Very rare and with attractive earthen highlights. Somewhat rough and with areas of weakness, otherwise, very fine.
