Description

L. Memmius, 109-108 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.91 g, 9 h), Rome. Male head to right, wearing oak wreath; below chin, star (mark of value). Rev. L•MEMMI The Dioscuri standing facing before their horses, each holding a spear. Babelon (Memmia) 1. Crawford 304/1. RBW 1145. Sydenham 558. A nicely toned example with a bold portrait. Minor die breaks on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From an American collection of Roman Republican and Imperatorial coins, ex Hirsch 279, 8 February 2012, 2131 (with collector's and original auction tickets).
