★ A very rare Standing Caliph from Susa ★
ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Pashiz (Bronze, 16 mm, 0.89 g, 12 h), Arab Sasanian type with a 'Standing Caliph', Susa, after AH 74 = AD 693. Caliph standing facing, holding manipula in his right hand and placing his left hand on the pommel of his sword; in the field to right and left, ŠWŠ PZWN ('Susa growth' in Pahlawi). Rev. Elaborate floral symbol on shaft placed on three steps; in the field to left, ŠWŠ ('Susa' in Pahlawi); in the field to right, LWB'K ('current' in Pahlawi). Gyselen 39a. Very rare. Holed, otherwise, good fine.
