Description

MYSIA. Pergamon. Circa 166-67 BC. Cistophorus (Silver, 27 mm, 12.26 g, 11 h), circa 76. Cista mystica from which snake coils; around, ivy wreath with fruits. Rev. Two snakes coiled around a bow case; between the snake heads, ΑΠ above monogram of ΠPY and star; to left, monogram of ΠΕΡΓ; to right, serpent-entwined thyrsos. Kleiner 25. Pinder 122. SNG Paris 1726-7. Harshly cleaned and the obverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
