Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.38 g, 5 h), Antiochia, July 325 (?). Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to left. Rev. CONSTAN/TINVS / CAESAR / SMANTS in four lines; above, star. RIC 54. Good very fine.
From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, privately acquired from Münzhandlung Ritter in August 1995.
As mentioned for the previous lots, Bruun misread many officina letters of the dynastic bronze emissions from Antioch. In fact, it were officinae A and S that struck for the Caesars Constantine and Constantius, with no other officinae represented. For Constantine Caesar, there are presently 9 examples known of officina A and 75 of officina S.
