Description

★ Apparently unique and with an unusual and impressive military bust type ★

Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 19 mm, 3.19 g, 12 h), Rome, circa 320. CONSTANT-INVS AVG Helmeted, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to left, seen from behind, holding spear in his right hand and shield in his left. Rev. VOT / XV / FEL / XX / R T in five lines within wreath. RIC -. Apparently unique and with an unusual and impressive military bust type. Slightly smoothed and with a thin flan crack, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This unique bust type is entirely missing from RIC VII. It is closest to bust type H12, but with the spear pointing forward, not held across the shoulder. The unique bust combined with a very rare reverse makes this coin one of the great rarities in the Ramskold Collection.
