Description

ISLAMIC, Mongols. Great Khans. Möngke, AH 649-658 / AD 1251-1260. Dirham (Silver, 19 mm, 1.33 g), posthumous issue, Pulad, date off flan. Double-trident tamgha of Möngke in a central circle; in the margin, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh Muḥammad rasūl Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic). Rev. ‘ḍuriba hādhā / al-dirham / bi sikka Būlād’ (‘This dirham was struck with the die of Pulad’ in Arabic); illegible date around. Zeno 2435. Rare. Nicely toned. Areas of weakness, otherwise, good very fine.

Similar issues bear the dates AH 658 (= 1259/60) and AH 659 (1260/1).
