ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. temp. Al-Mahdi, AH 158-169 / AD 775-785. Drachm (Silver, 25 mm, 3.11 g, 3 h), Lords of Bukhara, Bukhara. Crowned bust to right; behind, 'al-Mahdi' in Kufic; before, 'Lord of Bukhara' in Sogdian. Rev. Sasanian fire altar, which is the outline of the divine head facing right, flanked by two attending priests (mabedh) standing facing each other. Album 94. Walker, Arab-Sassanian, 319 ff. Minor deposits and with a few scratches, otherwise, very fine.
