Description

ISLAMIC, Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Artuqids (Kayfa & Amid). Qutb al-Din Sukman II, AH 581-597 / AD 1185-1200. Dirham (Bronze, 28 mm, 10.74 g, 1 h), AH 584 = 1188/9. Diademed Roman-style busts back to back; above, traces of ‘sana arbaʿ wa thamānīn wa khamsa miʾa’ (‘year 584’ in Arabic). Rev. Citing the ʿAbbasid caliph al-Nasir li-din Allah (AH 575-622 / AD 1180-1225), and the Ayyubid al-Nasir Salah al-Din Yusuf (AH 564-589 / AD 1169-1193) as overlord in the field and around as ‘al-malik al-ʿādil Quṭb / al-Dīn Sukmān ibn / Muḥammad ibn Qarā Arslān / ibn Urtuq muʿīn al-imā/[m al-Nāṣir /] li-Dīn Allāh / [al-malik al-Nāṣir /] Yūsuf ibn Ayyūb’ (‘The just king Qutb al-Din Sukman, son of Muhammad, son of Qara Arslan, son of Urtuq, supporter of Imam al-Nasir li-din Allah. King al-Nasir Yusuf, son of Ayyub’ in Arabic). Album 1822.2. Rare. Somewhat weak and with minor deposits, otherwise, good fine.
