IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG P M TR P COS III Radiate head of Hadrian to right, with slight drapery on his left shoulder. Rev. PIETAS AVGVSTI / S - C Veiled Pietas standing right, holding acerrum in her left hand and dropping incense over lighted altar with her right. BMC 1231. Cohen 1044. RIC 475. Traces of overstriking on the reverse, otherwise, good fine.

From the collection of Eric ten Brink, privately acquired from Jacquier on 5 December 2020 and ex Classical Numismatic Group E-Auction 124, 12 October 2005, 255.

This is a so-called 'Kraay overstrike', where the mint workers were using two different reverse dies alternately and rapidly at the same anvil, accidentally striking the reverse twice in succession with differing types.
